Easy options to pay - online, credit card, or by check
- Pay online at MyTax Illinois – You can pay electronically from your checking or savings account.

o Select if you don't have a MyTax Illinois account
- Make your payment using your credit card (online or by phone). Note: The credit card service provider will assess a convenience fee.
- Mail us your check or money order (follow the payment instructions on the form or voucher associated with your filing). Note: Vehicle use tax bills (RUT series tax forms) must be paid by check.
What should I do if I have not filed my return and owe income taxes?
File your IL-1040, Illinois Income Tax Return, and make a payment of whatever amount you can afford. You can make additional payments at any time. Please note that any payments made after the April 15 due date may be assessed late payment penalties and interest until the balance is paid in full.

What should I do if I cannot file my return by April 15 and owe income taxes?
Complete Form IL-505-I, Automatic Extension Payment, and make a payment of whatever amount you can afford. You can make additional payments at any time. Make sure to file your IL-1040, Illinois Income Tax Return, by the extended due date. Please note that any payments made after the April 15 due date may be assessed late payment penalties and interest until the balance is paid in full.
Is a payment plan available?
We often receive questions about payment plans. Payment plans are not available until a balance reaches the Collections stage. If you receive a notice from us that has a Collection ID in the upper right corner, indicating your balance has reached Collections, you may be eligible to apply for a payment plan.
