Payment Plan Information

If you have tax delinquencies you cannot pay in full because of a financial hardship, you can request a payment installment plan.

  • We encourage you to use our pre-approved payment plan option, available at MyTax Illinois. You will be approved if you meet the terms presented. Simply select the "Set up a Payment Installment Plan with IDOR" link and complete the information requested. Once you submit your request, you will receive a confirmation message from MyTax Illinois.
  • If you are not able to agree to the terms presented, you can also request a payment plan through your own MyTax Illinois account. This will allow you to request terms which better fit your financial situation. This option will require review by IDOR Collections staff. After the review, we will let you know if your payment plan is approved. Use the "Sign Up!" link on the MyTax Illinois homepage to activate your account if you do not already have one.

A payment installment plan is an agreement between you and the Illinois Department of Revenue to pay your tax delinquencies using a monthly payment plan. Your monthly payment amount and the length of time that you have to pay is based on your financial condition. To be approved for a payment plan, you must have filed all tax returns through the current date. All outstanding liabilities will be part of the same payment plan. After we process your request, we will let you know if your payment plan is approved.

You also can complete Form CPP-1, Payment Installment Plan Request, to request a payment installment plan. If the payment agreement amount that you are applying for, including penalties and interest, is over $15,000, you must also complete Form EG-13-I, Financial and Other Information Statement for Individuals, or Form EG-13-B, Financial and Other Information Statement for Businesses, as applicable.

What payment options are available if I am on a pay plan for my debt?

We encourage taxpayers on pay plans to take advantage of the ACH debit option. Using ACH debit eliminates the risk of late payments. However, you may use one of the other following options to pay:

  • MyTax Illinois - Our free account management program allows you to file returns, make payments, view balances, and manage your tax account.
  • Credit card (for Individual Income Tax only) - We accept Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and American Express. Please note, the credit card service provider will assess a convenience fee. If you prefer, you may call (866) 490-2061 and choose the credit card payment option. If your payment is for a prior year, select “prior year.”
  • Pay-by-Phone - We offer an automated system that will assist you in authorizing an electronic withdrawal from your checking or savings account. The phone number for Pay-by-Phone is (866) 490-2061.
