What is the difference between an ACH Debit payment and an ACH Credit payment?

The ACH debit payment option is a one-time electronic bank payment where you submit your checking account and routing numbers to electronically withdraw funds from your checking account on a date of your choosing. You can make an ACH debit payment with the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) using mytax.illinois.gov

The ACH credit payment option is a payment method supported by most financial institutions and works like a direct deposit. IDOR requires using the CCD standard entry class code in conjunction with the TXP addendum to ensure correct payment posting. Prior authorization to obtain IDOR's banking information is required. Note that ACH credit is not the preferred payment option for most taxpayers, especially for a one-time payment.
