How do retailers use MyTax Illinois to maintain site locations for their sales tax accounts?

​To add a changing, or remote, sales location:

  1. Log in to your MyTax Illinois account and select 'View More Account Options' in the ST-1 account.
  2. Under the "Account Maintenance Section", select the 'Maintain Locations' link. Select 'Next' until you reach the "Add Changing Location Site" tab.
  3. Select the check box next to the Municipalities or Counties you want to add. Add a Start date. (If the site from where you make sales is outside any city/municipality jurisdiction, use the county option.) Note: The MyTax Illinois Tax Rate Finder may be used to verify the location code for the municipality or county you wish to add.
  4. Select 'Submit' in bottom-right, which will generate a new certificate overnight.

To add a permanent sales location:

  1. Log in to your MyTax Illinois account and select 'View More Account Options' in the ST-1 account. 
  2. Under the "Account Maintenance Section", select the 'Maintain Locations' link. Select 'Next' until you reach the "Add Permanent Sites" tab. Select the 'Add a Site' link. 
  3. Enter the start date and address of your new location. Select 'Validate Site' and 'Next'. You are now on the screen for changing locations (e.g., remote sales, flea markets, farmers markets, fairs, conventions, mobile food sales, etc.). If you do not need a Changing Location, bypass this option. Note: The MyTax Illinois Tax Rate Finder may be used to verify the location code for the validated address you wish to add.
  4. Select 'Submit' in bottom-right, which will generate a new certificate overnight.

To close a permanent sales location:

  1. Log in to your MyTax Illinois account and select 'View More Account Options' in the ST-1 account.
  2. Under the "Account Maintenance Section", select the 'Maintain Locations' link. Select the blue 'Location Code' next to the site you would like to close.
  3. Enter "Cease Date" for a closing date. Select 'Next' twice, then select 'Submit' in bottom-right.
