What is the sales tax rate for personal grooming and hygiene products?

Personal grooming and hygiene products are taxed as general merchandise at the high rate of 6.25%, regardless of whether such products make a medicinal claim. If such a product is sold as a result of a prescription, the product is taxed at the low rate of 1% like medication. See 86 Ill. Adm. Code 130.311 for additional information.
