SSN/ITIN Mismatch

Illinois rejects returns when the IL-1040 primary or secondary SSN or ITIN does not match the taxpayer identification number (SSN or ITIN) on the W2s. Although these returns are being accepted at the federal level, Illinois will reject these IL-1040 returns using Error Reject Code 123. The taxpayer must file a paper IL-1040 if there is a SSN/ITIN mismatch.

Illinois Reject Code 029 - Electronic IL-1040 Rejects

Illinois now uses the IRS database file to automatically enroll EROs in the IL-1040 electronic filing program. Since we receive this file only once a week, an ERO recently set to the approved status by the IRS may not be listed on the file we receive until the next week. Due to this timing issue, EROs who received an 029 reject code and have verified their enrollment status with the IRS should resubmit their rejected returns the following week.
