My son is required to rent athletic equipment from the school in order to participate in the school's athletic program. Does this expense qualify?
This expense may qualify. The only expenses that qualify are tuition, book fees, and lab fees. This expense may be considered a lab fee if the rental fee is for equipment necessary for the pupil to participate in and complete a lab course of the school's education program. The determination will depend upon whether the athletic program or course in which your son is participating will result in a credit towards completion of the school's education program and if the fees incurred are essential to completing the course or program.
