Sales Tax WebFile

Sales Tax WebFile is a FREE online application that allows you to file your ST-1, Sales and Use Tax Return and ST-2, Multiple Site Form, directly from your computer through our web site. This program is secure, and you will receive a confirmation number when you are finished as proof of filing. WebFile is also convenient, it is available 24 hours any day of the week.

Your Illinois Business Tax number (IBT) and a department assigned Personal Identification Number (PIN) or the Social Security number of any owner, officer, or responsible party you have on file with us is needed to access the Sales Tax WebFile application. All of your registered locations and tax rates will be listed as shown on the paper sales tax return or TeleFile Worksheet. Note: If any of this information is incorrect, you should contact us to correct this information before you file your return.

Note:
Illinois Business Tax (IBT) numbers eventually will be replaced by Account IDs when that tax is included in the new system. At the end of the four-year transition period, use of the term “IBT” will be discontinued.

Eligibility: This program is available to monthly, quarterly and annual ST-1 filers, including mandated taxpayers. You may use Sales Tax WebFile if

  • you are registered with us;
  • our records contain the name, Social Security number and signature of the person who is responsible for filing and paying your sales and use tax returns (If you do not have this information on file with us, you must complete the REG-3-D, Request for Signature, before you may use this program.);
  • you do not have any prepaid sales tax from Form PST-2 to report on Line 17 of Form ST-1;
  • you do not file Form ST-2-TS, Temporary Storage Multiple Site Form, or ST-2-DP, Direct Pay Multiple Site Form.

How do I get a Personal Identification Number?

We assign and mail the PIN to qualified taxpayers. This letter containing the PIN also tells the date you may begin to use Sales Tax WebFile. If you misplaced your PIN, you may access the Sales Tax WebFile program using the Social Security number of an owner, officer, or responsible party you have registered for your business, or you may obtain your PIN by calling us at 1 800 732-8866, 217 782-3336 or at 1 800 544-5304 (TDD only).

Payment Options:

If you are mandated to pay electronically using Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), you may now pay through the Sales Tax WebFile program or continue to pay using EFT. If you are not mandated to pay electronically, you may choose to voluntarily pay by EFT or through the Sales Tax WebFile program, or you may pay by paper check.
